Far out, didn't your daddy give you this talk?

If it has a pole it is a boy.
If it has a hole it is a girl.

But I know what you mean, Stosur (sp?) has bigger arms than me. :P

I'd like to get stuck with her on a deserted island. Her and a bottle of dead horse, I could be fed for a fortnight. :P

Yeah I agree - it can be annoying... especially when I want to go to bed!

That said - I do love a close game. Might be time to get a PVR.

Yeh I'm sure if I went to bed and recorded the end of a match I would alway find out the score by the time I got to watch the end... let alone all the new matches that would be on to watch...

I assume the point of the 5 sets is to bring the fitness competition aspect into play... whether that's a good thing or not I'm not sure!

Fitness maybe...

But, I am going to get equalist a little here. The women want the same amount of prize money but they play less tennis. I am not saying make women play 5 sets, but make men play 3.

I don't know how many matches a top ten player would play a year, but lets say it is 1000. A woman would then play a minimum of 2000 sets to a man's 3000 and a maximum of 3000 to a man's 5000.

Sure the man needs to endure more in a match, BUT, so does the degeneration of his body over a year. It is almost a duty of care. I would prefer to see a maximum of 3 sets and have them a lot more powerful and explosive rather than a fitness test. Hell, why not make them play tennis till they drop to see who wins if it is a fitness test? :P

Equality peoples!

Very few mens tournaments play five sets. The Grand Slams and a few others. The vast majority are three sets ie Sydney.

So why do it in those? It is also the logistics. In the first few rounds, if the organisers are unlucky, the men can push out the schedule a lot by having 5 set matches.

I know they did it in Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane. I actually thought they changed the format and thought how awesome it was, that was a bit of a motivation for this post too. I personally enjoyed watching men's tennis in the lesser tournies.

They play 3 sets at all tournaments except Grand Slams. Slams are supposed to be a test which is why they stayed in.

And I agree with you re: prizemoney - women still only play to 3 sets at Grand Slams but have agitated for equal pay with the men despite playing appreciably less tennis than them.
